Prior to this DIY Kids Step Stool, our bathrooms step stools up to this point have been either lime green or Mickey Mouse themed, both plastic of course, and both eye sores.
I made this little wooden step stool out of a 2×4 and a 1×4- so quick and easy – and much better looking.
*Thanks for those that called out that a 1″ x 4″ was used for the top of the steps! Sorry for the original misprint!*
I cut my wood into 9 pieces, measuring as below:
1, 2 x 4 x 12″
2, 2 x 4 x 13 1/2″
2, 2 x 4 x 6 5/8″
4, 1 x 4 x 15″
*2 x 4 x 12″ not pictured in below photo*
Measure and cut as you go for accuracy.
The two 2 x 4 x 13 1/2″ will be the base of stool.
Glue and attach two of the 1 x 4 x 15″ boards at one end of the parallel 4 x 13 1/2″ boards as shown below.
Next, insert the 4 x 12″ board halfway between the baseboards. Glue & drill wood screws in to attach.
Stack the 4 x 6 5/8″ boards at either end of the bases, again glueing and using a wood screw to attach – this is the height of the next “step”.
Line up the balance two 1 x 4 x 15″ boards, and nail to the top step.
Finish the stool with stain (I used Rust-oleum Kona Stain)…
