Besides being delicious and refreshing, there are three things I love about this drink…

1. It uses all fresh ingredients.
2. No sugar is needed.
3. It is kid-friendly but asks to be made boozy (cue vodka please).

Watermelons are finally in season, and I couldn’t think of anything more delicious to do with a watermelon (aside from eating it straight off the rind of course) than pureeing it into a sweet, slightly tangy beverage that speaks “drink me” through its gorgeous color.

Watermelon Lemonade w/Blueberries & Mint

Yield: 4


4 cups watermelon (seedless or seeds removed)
2 lemons, juiced plus additional for garnish
1 cup blueberries
12 mint leaves plus additional for garnish
Vodka (optional)


In a blender, combine watermelon and lemon juice. Puree until smooth.
Divide blueberries among four glasses (1/4 cup each). Add 3 mint leaves to each glass. Gently muddle the blueberries and mint.
Divide watermelon mixture among glasses.
Add 2 oz. of vodka to each glass (optional).
Garnish with a slice of lemon and mint leaf.
